Ionawr

2ail - Golchwyd heulforgi (Cetorhinus maximus) i'r lan ym Mhorth Neigwl yn ystod y gwyliau ac aethom i'w weld.

Gall heulforgwn dyfu hyd at 12 m a phwyso 3,500 – 4,000 kg. Maent yn aeddfed yn rhywiol pan o 2 i 4 mlwydd oed a tua 7 m o hyd. Dim ond 6 m oedd yr heulforgi hwn felly pysgodyn cymharol ifanc ydoedd. Mae dŵr sy’n cynnwys plancton yn llifo i’w geg wrth i’r heulforgi nofio a’i geg yn agored. Wrth i’r dŵr lifo trwy’i holltau tagell fawr, mae’r plancton yn cael ei ddal yn y cribiniau bychan sydd ar y tegyll. Mewn awr, tra’n nofio ar gyflymdra o 2 fôr-filltir, gall yr heulforgi hidlo’r plancton sydd mewn 1,500 tunnell o ddŵr. Mae gan yr heulforgi iau anferth sy’n pwyso hyd at 500 – 700 kg, h.y. tua 25% o gyfanswm pwysau’r corff.

January

2nd - A basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) was washed up on Hell's Mouth during the holidays and we went to see it.

Basking sharks grow to a maximum length of 12 m and can weigh up to 3,500 – 4,00 kg. Basking sharks become sexually mature when about 7 m long and 2 to 4 years old. This shark was about 6 m long and, therefore, comparatively young. As the shark swims along with its mouth open, water flows in and the plankton in it is caught on gill rakers which act as filters. The water flows out through enlarged gill slits. Swimming at 2 knots, this shark can filter the plankton out of about 1,500 tons of water in one hour. The basking shark has an enormous liver which weighs 500 - 700 kg, i.e. about 25% of its total body weight.

Chwefror

Bu peth rhwydo ar y traethau yn ystod y tywydd braf ganol y mis. Daliwyd ychydig o ddraenogiad y môr. Mae'r pris a dderbynir gan y pysgotwr, llai na £2 y pwys, yn isel oherwydd y gystadlaeath gan ddraenogiaid a fewnforir. O feithrinfeydd yn Yr Aifft a Gwlad Groeg y daw'r mwyafrif o ddraenogiaid sydd ar gael yn y siopau a'r bwytai.

Draenogiad y môr mewn rhwyd draeth Sea bass in a beach net

February

There was some beach netting during the fine weather in the middle of the month. A few bass were taken. The price received by the fisherman is low at less than £2 per lb due to competition from imported bass. Most of the bass seen in shops and restaurants comes from nurseries in Egypt and Greece.

Mawrth

Cafwyd eira anghyffredin o drwm i Ben Llŷn yn ystod cannol y mis ac fe barodd heb ddadmar am bron i wythnos.

Mae nifer o'r ffyddloniaid wedi bod yn carrio cewyll allan yn ystod y mis mewn pryd ar gyfer tymor y cimychiaid.

Mae'r eira yn sefyll ar y traeth yn arwydd o pam mor oer yr ydoedd / The snow remaining on the beach is an indiction of how cold it was.

March

What was an unusually heavy snowfall for Llŷn happened during the middle of the month and it did not thaw for almost a week.

A number of the faithful have been carrying pots out during the month in time for the lobster season.

Ebrill

1af - Dechrau'r rhaglen V-nodi cimychiaid ar gyfer y tymor hwn drwy nodi a rhyddhau cimychiaid a ddaliwyd ger Porth Golmon gan Sion.

15ed - Dim byd i'w wneud â'r môr ond yr wyf wedi gweld ceiliog ffesant du. Tynnais ei lun ond yr oedd gryn bellter i ffwrdd.

16eg - Mae'r goedwig fawn wedi dod i'r golwg unwaith eto ar draeth Porth Neigwl. Dywedodd Hyde Hall (1810) bod y tonnau yn faflu i fynnu darnau o dderw gyda reptiliaid byw wedi eu darganfod ynddynt.

17eg - Gwelais yr wennol gyntaf elenni.

Porth Neigwl - Coedwig fawn / Fossil forest

April

1st - Started this season's lobster V-notching programme by notching and releasing lobsters caught by Sion off Porth Golmon.

15th - Nothing to do with the sea but I have seen a black pheasant. I took a photo of it but it was some distance away.

16th - The fossil forest has appeared again at Hell's Mouth. Hyde Hall (1810) said that the violence of the waves threw up "masses of oak, within which living reptiles have been discovered."

17th - Saw this year's first swallow.

Mai

7ed - Codi 4 o'r gloch y bore i fynd i ddal llymriaid ar draeth Tŷ'n Tywyn. Roedd yn draddodiad yn Llŷn i drigolion y pentrefi gwledig fynd i lawr i'r traethau tywod i ddal llymriaid. Dim ond ar y distyll tra mae'n gwawrio yn ystod mis Mai y mae dal llymriaid. Maent wedi eu claddu yn y tywod ac maent yn symud yn gyflym iawn. Buom ni'll dau yn palu am 2 awr i ddal digon ar gyfer un pryd i 5 ohonnom. Edrychwch ar y dudalen Bwyd o'r môr am ragor o wybodaeth.

Llymriaid / Sandeels

May

7th - Rose at 4 a.m. to catch sandeels on the Warren beach. There was a tradition of sandeel digging in Llŷn when people from the rural villages flocked to sandy beaches to catch this delicacy. This can only be done over low water at dawn during May. The sandeels are buried in the sand and move very quickly. We both dug for 2 hours to catch enough for one meal for 5. See the Food from the sea page for more information.

Mehefin

1af - Mae pla o grancod heglog (Maja squinado) wedi cyrraedd arfordir Llŷn. Maent i'w gweld yn llond y cewyll ac hyd yn oed yn dal eu gafael ar ochr allan y cewyll. Gwelais blant yn dal dau yn ystod y distyll heddiw ym Mhorthdinllaen.

2ail - Mae'r llysywod hir (Belone belone) cyntaf elenni wedi cyrraedd i Bae Llanbedrog.

10th - Dangosodd Stephen wyau yr ystifflog (Sepia officinalis) i mi. Roeddynt ar un gawell yn unig yng nghanol Bae Aberdaron. Ni welodd Stephen wyau tebyg i'r rhain erioed o'r blaen er ei fod wedi cwella am dros ugain mlynedd.

Wyau ystifflog ar gawell / Cuttlefish eggs on a lobster pot

June

1st - A plague of spider crabs (Maja squinado) have arrived on the coast of Llŷn. They fill lobster pots and even cling to the outside of the pots. I saw some children catching two today at Porthdinllaen over low water.

2nd - The first garfish (Belone belone) of the season have arrived in Llanbedrog Bay.

10ed -  Stephen showed me these cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) eggs. They were on one lobster pot only in the middle of Aberdaron Bay. Stephen has never seen such eggs before although he has been lobster potting for over twenty years.

Gorffennaf

Mae'r crancod heglog yn dal o gwmpas. Y record yw 29 mewn un gawell yn ogystal ag un ychwanegol ar ben y gawell.

Recordiwyd coginio barbecue yn cynnwys pysgod lleol ar Draeth Porth Golmon ar gyfer "The Food Show."

Barbecue Porth Golmon

July

The spider crabs are still around. The record is 29 in one lobster pot with an additional one on top of the pot.

The making of a barbecue that included local fish was recorded at Porth Golmon for "The Food Show."

Awst

11ed - Daeth y morlo hwn i'n gweld pan oeddem ni gerllaw Cerrig y Trai ger Ynysoedd St. Tudwal, Abersoch.

Morlo / Seal

August

11th - This seal came to have a look at us while we were close to Cerrig y Trai near St. Tudwal's Islands, Abersoch.

Medi

18ed - Golchwyd miloedd o gorbenwaig wedi marw i fynu ar y llinell llanw ym Mhorthdinllaen. Ynyswyd rhai mewn pyllau ar y creigiau.

Hydref

8ed - Tarth yn codi o'r môr yn ystod y bore ym Mhorth Meudwy.

25ain - Mae'r haf wedi troi yn aeaf ac anos yw gwaith y pysgotwr.

Tarth / Vapour - Porth Meudwy

Glanio / Landing - Porth Meudwy

October

8th - Vapour rising from the sea at Porth Meudwy during the morning.

25th - Summer has become winter and the fisherman's work has become more difficult.

Tachwedd

7ed - Mae cryn amrywiaeth yn liwiau'r cimychiaid. Weithiau fe welir ieir mawr golau eu lliw. Cafodd hon ei dal, ei nodi â'i rhyddhau ger Aberdaron.

November

7th - There is considerable variation in lobster colouring. These large light coloured hens are seen. This one was caught, V-notched and released off Aberdaron.

Rhagfyr

25ain - Yn anghyffredin iawn, cawsom eira ar fore'r Nadolig.

Cafodd 2229 o gimychesau eu V-nodi a'u dychwelyd yn ôl i'r môr ger arfordir Llŷn yn ystod 2004. Edrychwch ar y dudalen V-nodi am ragor o wybodaeth am y cynllun.

Aeth y cwch pysgota cregyn moch o Bwllheli, "Yves Marie Amile," ar dân a syddo oddi ar arfordir Sir Benfro. Achubwyd pawb oedd ar ei bwrdd.

Bore'r Nadolig / Christmas morning

December

25th - Unusually, we had snow on Christmas morning.

A total of 2229 female lobsters were V-notched and returned to the sea off the coast of Llŷn during 2004. Look on the V-notching page for more information about the scheme.

The Pwllheli based whelk potter "Yves Marie Amile" caught fire and sank off St. David's Head, Pembrokeshire. All hands were rescued.
