Yn 1852 gyrrwyd cwch a ddyluniwyd gan James Beeching i Borthmadog er mae'n debyg mai yng Nghriccieth ei cedwid. Daeth y cwch ar y trźn i Gaernarfon ond trodd yn Afon Menai wrth ei brofi. Pan lusgwyd ef i'r lan yr oedd ei ddau danc aer blaen yn llawn o ddŵr.

Roedd y "Dauntless" yn 30' o hyd, 7'6" o led ac yn tynnu 3'9".Roedd dwy hwyl ganddo a lle i ddeg rhwyfwr. Adeiladwyd ar gost o £133.

Yn ei le yn 1854, daeth cwch a ddyluniwyd gan James Peake. Roedd yn 28' o hyd, 7'8" o led ac yn tynnu 3'6" ac fe elwid ef yn "First Lifeboat." Roedd ganddo un hwyl a lle i ddeg rhwyfwr.

Caewyd gorsaf bad achub Criccieth yn 1931 ac fe'i hailagorwyd yn 1953.

CRICCIETH

In 1852 a boat designed by James Beeching was sent to Porthmadog although it was probably kept at Criccieth. The boat was brought by rail to Caernarfon but capsized while being trialled in the Menai Strait. After it was dragged ashore the two forward air tanks were found to be full of water.

The "Dauntless" was 30' long, 7'6" wide with a draught of 3'9". It had two sails and room for 10 oarsmen. The build cost was £133.

A replacement boat designed by James Peake arrived in 1854. It was 28' long, 7'8" wide with a draught of 3'6" and it was called the "First Lifeboat." It had one sail and room for 10 oarsmen.

Criccieth lifeboat station was closed in 1931 and reopened in 1953.

Yn ystod yr 1870au, trigai dyliniwr badau achub ym Mrynhyfryd, Pwllheli. Roedd Henry T. Richardson, fel ei dad o'i flaen, yn enwog am ddylunio badau achub "tubular." Wedi'i farw yn 1878, gadawyd un o'i fadau achub yng ngofal Cyngor Tref Pwllheli a gofynnodd ei weddw am ganiatād i godi cwt i'r cwch yng Nglan Don. Nid oes gwybodaeth ar gael am dynged y cwch na'i gwt.

Gadawodd Henry Richardson £500 er mwyn sefydlu gorsaf bad achub ac fe gwblhawyd yr orsaf yn Nhocyn Brwyn yn 1890. Cyrrhaeddodd y "Caroline Richardson" yn 1891. Roedd yn gwch "tubular" ar gyfer 16 rhwyfwr. Nid oedd yn addas ar gyfer Pwllheli ac fe'i symudwyd i'r Rhyl yn yr un flwyddyn.

Yn 1892, daeth y "Margaret Platt of Stalybridge" i'r orsaf. Roedd yn gwch agored ar gyfer 12 rhwyfwr. Daeth yr ail "Margaret Platt of Stalybridge" i Bwllheli yn 1898 a gwasanaethodd am 32 mlynedd. Roedd ganddi hwyl ac felly'n gallu trafeilio ym mhellach ac yn gyflymach.

Cyrrhaeddodd y bad achub cyntaf i'w yrru gan beiriant ym Mhwllheli yn ystod 1930. Y "Maria" o Port Patrick ydoedd a daeth i Bwllheli fel arbrawf. Llwyddodd yr arbrawf a cyrrhaeddodd y "William Macpherson" yn 1931.

Daeth y cwch gwyllt cyntaf i Bwlllheli yn 1964.

PWLLHELI

A lifeboat designer lived at Brynhyfryd, Pwllheli during the 1870s. Henry T. Richardson like his father before him was famous for designing tubular lifeboats. After his death in 1878, one of his lifeboats was left in the care of Pwllheli Town Council and his widow asked permission for a boathouse to be built at Glan Don. There is no information available about the fate of this boat its boathouse.

Henry Richardson left £500 for the establishment of a lifeboat station and the station at Tocyn Brwyn was completed by 1890. The "Caroline Richardson" arrived in 1891. It was a tubular lifeboat for 16 oarsmen. It was not suitable for Pwllheli and was transferred to Rhyl during the same year.

In 1892, the "Margaret Platt of Stalybridge" arrived at the station. It was an open boat for 12 oarsmen. A second "Margaret Platt of Stalybridge" came to Pwllheli in 1898 and served for 32 years. It had a sail and was, therefore, able to travel further and faster.

The first engine powered lifeboat arrived at Pwllheli during 1930. It was the "Maria" from Portpatrick and it came to Pwllheli on a trial basis. The trial was a success and the "William Macpherson" arrived in 1931.

The first inshore lifeboat arrived at Pwllheli in 1964.

ABERSOCH

Agorwyd yr orsaf bad achub cyntaf ar Drwyn Pen Du yn 1844. Fe'i caewyd yn 1853 heb achub yr un enaid. Erbyn 1869 roedd gorsaf newydd yn ei safle presennol.

Yn 1878, derbyniodd y Parch. Owen Williams, mab yr hwn a sefydlwyd y gwasanaeth bad achub Cymreig, ail glasb at ei fedal wasanaeth. Aeth a'r bad achub at y llong 596 tunnell y "Dusty Miller" a oedd ar angor ac mewn trafferthion ger Sarn Badrig. Arhosodd ger y llong drwy'r nos nes i'r tug ddod i dwyo'r llong i gysgod Ynysoedd Tudwal.

ABERSOCH

The first lifeboat station was opened on Penrhyn Du in 1844. It was closed in 1853 without a single soul having been saved. By 1869, there was a new station at the present location.

In 1878, the Rev. Owen Williams, the son of the founder of the lifeboat service in Wales, received a second clasp to his service medal. He took the lifeboat to the 596 ton ship, the "Dusty Miller" which was anchored and in difficulties by St Patrick's Causeway. He stood by the ship throughout the night until a tug arrived to tow the ship to the shelter of the St. Tudwal Islands.

PORTHDINLLAEN

Sefydlwyd gorsaf bad achub Porthdinllaen yn 1864. Arbedwyd 91 o fywydau mewn 33 o deithiau.

Methodd y cwch a mynd i roi cymorth i'r "Cyprian" ger Cwmistir ar 13eg Hydref, 1881. O ganlyniad, bu ymchwiliad cyhoeddus yn Nefyn a penderfynodd y 10 capten lleol nad oedd dim a allai'r bad achub fod wedi ei wneud i achub y "Cyprian."

Rhoddodd Mrs Noble o Henley-on-Thames £800 er cof am Capt. Strachan o'r "Cyprian" er mwyn sefydlu bad achub ar arfordir Sir Gaernarfon. O ganlyniad, adeiladwyd gorsaf Trefor.

Daeth y cwch cyntaf i'w yrru gan beiriant i Borthdinllaen yn 1926 ac fe estynnwyd y cwt a'r lithrfa ar ei gyfer.

Y bad achub presenol, yr "Hetty Rampton" yw'r wythfed bad achub a leolwyd ym Mhorthdinllaen.

PORTHDINLLAEN

The Porthdinllaen lifeboat station was founded in 1864. 91 lives were saved during 33 call outs.

The lifeboat failed to go to the aid of the "Cyprian" near Cwmistir on 13th October 1881. As a result, a public inquiry was held at Nefyn and the 10 local master mariners concluded there was nothing that the lifeboat could have done to save the "Cyprian."

Mrs Noble of Henley-on-Thames donated £800 in memory of Capt. Strachan of the "Cyprian" to station a lifeboat on the Caernarfonshire coast. The lifeboat station at Trefor was built as a result.

The first engine driven boat arrived at Porthdinllaen in 1926 and the boathouse and slipway were extended to accommodate it.

The present lifeboat, the "Hetty Rampton" is the eigth lifeboat to be stationed at Porthdinllaen.

 

 

TREFOR

Agorwyd gorsaf Trefor ar 19eg Ebrill, 1883. Roedd y bad achub yn 37 troedfedd o hir ar gyfer 12 o rwyfwyr ac fe'i elwid yn "Cyprian." Fe drodd ar 12eg Rhagfyr, 1883 tra'n ceisio cyrraedd y "Lady Hincks" o Lerpwl. Ni foddodd unrhyw un o griw'r bad achub.

TREFOR

The Trefor station was opened on 19th April 1883. The lifeboat was 37' long for 12 oarsmen and was called "Cyprian." It capsized on 12th December 1883 whilst attempting to reach the "Lady Hicks" out of Liverpool. None of the lifeboat's crew drowned.

Trefor lifeboat station was closed in 1901.
